Welcome to Thurso Fisheries
Limited. The Thurso is one Scotland's finest 'fly-only' salmon
rivers, with both spring and autumn runs, and an often prolific
run of summer grilse in July. The river descends gradually from
Loch More to the sea at Thurso over a distance of 25 miles, and
beats are fished in rotation by 2 rods per day, ensuring that
anglers have the opportunity to fish different parts of the river.
The dam on Loch More allows
freshnets of water to be released when the loch is full. Upper
beats begin immediately below the loch and are set amid the remote
peatlands of the northern Flow Country. Beats around Halkirk and
Thurso pass through farmland.
The fishing is varied, with
some long canal-like stretches which are best fished by 'backing
up' - a common practice on the beats. The river produces between
600 and 1300 salmon and grilse a year.

Brown trout fishing is available on the Estate lochs, some of
which are stocked. The 9 lochs lie in areas of exceptional natural
beauty, and the more remote ones, such as Loch Sand and Tulachan,
are ideal for anglers who also enjoy hill-walking and bird-watching.
Some lochs can produce fish up to 5lbs, but the average size on
self-stocking lochs is under 1lb.

Complimentary trout fishing
is available to salmon anglers when the river is unfishable, with
a charge for boat hire. Caithness has some of the finest trout
fishing in Scotland and permits can be arranged for other lochs.
